Kristofer Sakamoto-Marshall

Kristofer Sakamoto-Marshall (he/him) is a mixed-race male born and raised in Tkaronto/the GTA, Ontario, Canada. Having grown up surrounded by a diverse family and social circle, he was exposed to numerous backgrounds, ways of thinking, and lifestyles from a young age. Upon realizing the necessity for a platform that brings people together while providing a public forum to highlight these varied perspectives, experiences, and stories, he put his expertise to use and created The New Other.

My work a photographer is deeply rooted in the grounding power of the natural world. I depict the strength and calmness of water, the warmth of the sun, the foreboding of trees towering overhead, and so much more. In my work of urban settings, we instantly are swept away with the feeling of location. Through this imagery, I’m able to connect emotionally with the viewer, drawing them in, allowing for a greater appreciation of the location, as well as the people who inhabit it.

I thoroughly enjoy working with artists at all career stages, with an emphasis on emerging and mid-career artists. I’d love to connect with a diverse range of mentees who are looking to gain more industry insight and take the next steps to set themselves up for success. There are a lot of very talented artists in Brampton with a wide range of stories and experiences, which I believe should be shared with the world.
