BAO’s Recommended Payment Schedule

Brampton Arts Organization (BAO) is committed to paying artists and creatives fairly for the work they do with us. Our payment guidelines have been developed by consulting Canadian industry standards and recommendations, including the CARFAC-RAAV Minimum Recommended Fee Schedule.

Artist fees are generally understood as compensation for the creative content, expertise, time and services that artists provide to organizations. With these guidelines, BAO publicly shares what we pay artists and creatives for their work. This includes performances, workshops, showcases, screenings, exhibitions, presentations, use of artwork and other creative services.

All amounts listed are in Canadian dollars (CAD).The fees listed here provide a starting point for different types of creative work. In some circumstances, exceptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

If you have a specific need, barrier, accessibility requirement or other circumstance that affects how you can work with us or be paid, please talk to us. We want to be flexible and responsive rather than overly rigid, and will work with you to find an approach that is fair and workable.

Support Beyond Fees

Our support for artists and creatives can also extend beyond payment. Depending on the opportunity, BAO may also be able to provide:

– Access to BAO spaces for our events, creative work, meetings, rehearsals or other activities.
– Travel support, including travel vouchers or mileage reimbursement where appropriate.
– Access to art supplies, materials and equipment from our inventory at BAO, where available and appropriate for the project.

If one of these resources would help you work with us or reduce costs, please ask us. We encourage artists and creatives to discuss their needs with us early in the process.

BAO Payment Process

BAO typically pays artists and creatives electronically through EFT using a service called Plooto. We pride ourselves on trying to process payments as quickly as possible and typically provide payment within 30 days of receiving the required payment documentation.

If you have questions about a fee, payment method, payment timing or another barrier to participating, please reach out to us. We would rather have a conversation and find a workable solution than have a guideline prevent someone from taking part.

1. Exhibition and Presentation Payment (for example PIXEL: Digital Art Exhibition)

$371.00 CAD – Per exhibition or presentation.

2. Media Arts and Film Screening Payment

$250.00 CAD – Film Screening that is 5-15 minutes in length.

$360.00 CAD – Film Screening that is 15-30 minutes in length.

3. Music and Dance Performance Payment (includes rehearsal & other related activities)

Music:
$500.00 CAD – Track artist, solo or duo.
$750.00 CAD – Band with three or more members.

DJ-ing:
$500.00 CAD – Flat rate for up to 4 hours.

Dance:
$300.00 CAD – Performance up to 30 minutes.

4. Workshop and Facilitator Payment (includes preparation & other related activities)

$400.00 CAD – Online presentation and/or lecture.

$500.00 CAD – In-person workshop.

$728.00 CAD – Flat rate per day (over 4 hrs).

Mileage if required: $0.50 per km travelled, up to a maximum of $100 unless otherwise agreed.

5. Selection Panels, Consultations and Focus Group Payment

Selection Panel Payment:
$376.00 CAD – Half-day under 4 hours.
$664.00 CAD – Flat rate per day (over 4 hours).

Consultation and Focus Group Payment:
$50.00 CAD – Up to 30 minutes.
$100.00 CAD – 30 minutes to 2 hours.

Honoraria for Indigenous Advisors (e.g. Welcoming Ceremony):
$200.00 CAD – Per hour of consultation.
$500.00 CAD – For a half-day event.
$800.00 CAD – For a full day event.

Reserved Rights

The artist will retain all rights, title, and interest, including moral rights, to the submitted work. The artist will provide Brampton Arts Organization a broad irrevocable, paid-up, royalty-free, and otherwise cost-free license to use, publish, reproduce, adapt, exhibit, copy, and create derivative works from the submitted works, including the right to modify the size of the work submitted with respect to the particular opportunity it was submitted for.
